Kota. Kenbridge School situated at Ujjwal Vihar hosted Kota Sahoday Inter School Debate Competition-2023 in the school campus on Saturday. In all 24 CBSE affiliated Schools of the region participated in the event. The topic was ‘Over dependence on electronic devices has affected the innate creativity of the teenagers’. The aim of organizing debate was to hone the public speaking skills of the students and teach them to be articulate while expressing their thoughts and opinions. The session was the kaleidoscope of opinions, thoughts and perspective that enhanced the knowledge and understanding about how the rampant over-dependence on technology has greatly affected the creativity of school children. Each participant spoke his/her mind that was pregnant with logical and original ideas in favour of or against the resolution. The best part was the Rebuttal component in which each participant had to confront the rebuttal from another participant, who put one question to the specific candidate allotted to him through a draw. This demanded extempore presentation from both the candidates.
It was indeed a tough task for the three eminent judges to judge the comparative merits of the participants. There was so much talent in the room. Arguments were made and roved. The competition was so interesting with the exchange of students’ perspectives by equally stating the merits and demerits for overdependence on technology.
The event was judged by Prof. Sanjay Chawla, Dr. Seema Rathore, Principal, Government Commerce College and Prof. Sandeep Hooda from Vardhman Mahaveer Open University.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Sandeep Hooda said that technology is here to stay and only continues to advance, so perhaps one of the most sensible arguments is for balanced consumption of technology and information, much like how we view our diets. In an age of information overload, our brains need to be trained to avoid the glut and filter only what is needed. Then only we can nurture the right environment for creativity. He said that although both technology and face to face interaction are significant yet what we learn from experience goes a long way. He applauded the efforts put in by all the participants.
Vandana Singh, Principal Kenbridge School said that such interactions among the peers are highly fruitful. They develop critical thinking, help them see various perspectives of the same problem and push them to find the best solution and improve their attention skills. She said that the topic was indeed an eye opener. The debate was conducted by Priti Soni of the school.
